Caring for Acrylic Jewellery
Caring for Acrylic Jewellery
The Ultimate Guide to keeping your pieces safe, secure and in the best condition awaits you below.
Acrylic is great to make (and wear) accessories with because it is long lasting and hard wearing, however it needs to be treated with a little TLC to maximize it's life and stop it from discolouring or scratching.
We've assembled some easy care tips for your laser cut earrings, brooches, necklaces, rings, belts and other accessories below for you.
Our Top Tips on Caring for Acrylic Jewellery:
- Treat your acrylic accessories with love & store them in tissue paper, on a hanging wall display or their box when not in use
- Acrylic should be kept dry where possible. Please don't shower or bathe in our pieces, or submerge them in water - like gremlins they don't like it!
- To keep your pieces looking fab use a microfiber cloth (like one you get with your glasses or sunglasses) to given them the occasional polish. Don't use a regular towel or tissue as this can leave fine scratches on the surface
- If there's spots on the surface or fingerprint marks, you can wipe over these gently with a cotton tip & some isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol to clean these off
- Don't store your pieces near heat sources or in hot areas as they can warp. Storing them in a cool (and ideally dark) place will prolong their life
- Acrylic is durable, however can retain smells and can discolour if it comes into contact with some liquids so keep away from body lotion, hairspray, perfume, sunscreen & soap
- Always put your acrylic pieces on as a last finishing touch before leaving the house
- If you're driving, avoid getting your pieces caught in your seatbelt because they can snap
- Acrylic can scratch so keep away from sharp objects. If you do happen to scratch one of your Harlem Starlet pieces, contact us and we can try to help you fix this
- It's not recommended to sleep in acrylic pieces so it's best to remove all earrings, rings, brooches & other accessories before getting a good night's sleep
- Lastly if you're moving house or sending an acrylic piece to a loved one, make sure that it's snugly packed with bubble wrap and an outer box to ensure that it arrives in perfect condition
